Investigators Thursday were trying to locate a 51- year-old man suspected of fatally shooting a man and wounding a woman in Santa Clarita.
Gunfire erupted around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday in an apartment at a complex in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies found the woman with a gunshot wound to her shoulder and a man with a gunshot wound was pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, Saldana said.
“Witnesses recalled hearing screams coming from the location prior to gunshots being heard,” the deputy said.
Two men were seen leaving the location, one headed east and the other west, Saldana said.
The sheriff’s department today issued a special bulletin along with a photo of suspect Michael Joe McGlothan, aka Michael Batiste, who was identified as the wounded woman’s boyfriend.
McGlothan — who is black, 6 feet 4 inches tall, and weighs 230 pounds — should be considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff’s department warned.
He was driving a black 2015 Chevrolet Impala four-door with the license plate 7FTV649.
Anyone with information about McGlothan was urged to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
