Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out after two big rigs collided near a rest area Friday.
The Riverside County Fire Department responded to a fire at 2:09 a.m. on the eastbound Interstate 10 near the Cactus City Rest Area. One big rig was engulfed in flames.
Crews closed the interstate at Dillon Road for three hours as they worked to put out the fire and mitigate potential hazardous materials from the trailer, according to the fire department.
The Riverside County Department of Environmental Health was called to the scene to evaluate the contents within the trailer. There were no injuries reported. A load of butane cartridges burning within the trailer is suspected to have caused the fire.
As of about 5 a.m., the fire was fully extinguished and one lane reopened.
