An injured elderly hiker was hoisted to safety Thursday by firefighters with the help of a California Highway Patrol helicopter, the authorities said.
The Riverside County Fire Department reported that the rescue occurred at 12:20 p.m. along Coachella Canal Road near the line with Imperial County, according to the department.
The hiker was then transported with moderate injuries by an medical helicopter to a local hospital.
