“Bill & Ted Face the Music,” “Hillbilly Elegy” and “Mulan” are among the leading nominees for the eighth annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards, which will be presented Saturday evening in a “hybrid” ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The awards cover an array of film, television and theater categories, recognizing achievement in contemporary and period productions.
“Bill & Ted Face the Music” is nominated in film categories for best contemporary makeup, best period and/or character makeup, special makeup effects and contemporary hair styling. “Hillbilly Elegy” has nods for period/character makeup, special makeup effects and period hair styling.
During the ceremony, Oscar- and Emmy-winning makeup artist Matthew Mungle and Emmy-winning hair stylist Terry Baliel will receive MUAHS Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Meanwhile, comedian/actor Eddie Murphy — known for donning elaborate makeup and costumes to portray multiple characters in films such as “Coming to America” and “The Nutty Professor” — will receive a Distinguished Artisan Award, “celebrating the prolific spectrum of his versatile four-decade acting career on screen and television.”
He will be presented with the award by his “Coming to America” co-star, Arsenio Hall.
Among those expected to serve as presenters during the ceremony are Glenn Close, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Garner, Judith Light, Maria Bakalova, Cheryl Burke and Ming-Na Wen.
