Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 61-year-old Hemet resident killed when his car crashed into a tree in Riverside.
John Howard was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported about 4:15 p.m. Monday in the area of Victoria Avenue and Jefferson Street, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Ryan Taack said the gray 1999 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Victoria Avenue, east of Jefferson Street, when it veered off the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a palm tree in the center median.
