Police were investigating two separate shootings Saturday morning in Baldwin Park that took place an hour apart and have similar suspect descriptions.
The first occurred at 1:15 a.m. in the 3200 block of Athol Avenue, said Baldwin Park Police Sgt. Joshua Hendricks.
Responding officers found one man with a gunshot wound to the buttocks, Hendricks said. He was treated at the scene and transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. This unidentified victim was last reported in stable condition and scheduled to undgergo surgery, Hendricks added.
The suspect was described as heavy-set Hispanic male wearing dark clothes who was seen getting into a silver vehicle occupied by three or four other people, Hendricks said.
The second shooting took place at 2:16 a.m. near the intersection of Los Angeles Street and Walnut Avenue, according to Hendricks.
This victim was a woman who also was shot in the buttocks was also treated at the scene and sent to County-USC Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition and was awaiting surgery, Hendricks said.
In this case, the main suspect was also described as a heavy-set Hispanic man wearing dark clothes, who was seen getting into a gray car, carrying at least one other male, described as thin and also wearing dark clothes.
Hendricks said he didn’t know if the two shootings were gang-related. He also said the suspect descriptions were very similar, so the shootings may be related.
A motive was unknown. The gunman or gunmen and the accomplices remain at large, Hendricks said.
