A man barely hanging onto an embankment was rescued Sunday evening from a storm channel in Cypress by Orange County Fire Authority firefighters.
The rescue effort began at 5:48 p.m. in a channel near Knott Avenue and Recycle Way, according to an OCFA statement on Twitter.
The first arriving firefighters found the man clinging to the embankment with half his body in the moving water, fire officials said.
Firefighters threw the man a flotation device to hold while they cut through a fence, got to him and pulled him out of the channel, officials said.
Paramedics assessed him at the scene and took him to a hospital for treatment.
It is an example of the reason people should stay away from channels during storms, the officials said.
