A two-vehicle collision near a Riverside intersection killed an 88-year-old man and seriously injured two others, authorities said Wednesday.
David Schuster of Riverside was fatally injured about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday on West La Cadena Drive, just south of Tolouse Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Officer Ryan Railsback said Schuster was the passenger in a sedan traveling on La Cadena when it collided with a transit van, though it was unclear which driver caused the crash.
Paramedics reached the location within 10 minutes and pronounced Schuster dead at the scene.
“The driver of the van and driver of the sedan sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital in serious condition,” the police spokesman said.
La Cadena was partially shut down for several hours as a result of the collision.
The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
