A suspect was in custody Thursday in connection with the theft of an ambulance in Long Beach, police said.
The ambulance, belonging to South Bay Ambulance, was stolen from the 3800 block of Long Beach Boulevard around 11 p.m. Wednesday, said Long Beach Police Paul Baum.
The ambulance was being readied to pick up a dialysis patient when it was taken, a news videographer reported from the scene.
The suspect was arrested near the intersection of Livingston Street and Ximino Avenue after a five-minute police pursuit, Baum said. His name was not immediately released.
It was not immediately known if the ambulance was equipped with red lights and siren, nor if any of the vehicle’s emergency equipment was used during the pursuit. There was also no word from authorities of the motive behind stealing an ambulance, nor if there was any harm to the dialysis patient.
