A big rig rolled over Tuesday and spilled sand and gasoline onto Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms, causing a lane closure.

At 9:54 a.m. Tuesday, a truck with two trailers attached heading westbound crashed and overturned on the South Cook Street on-ramp, blocking the ramp, two lanes and a road sign, according to the California Highway Patrol. The on-ramp and lanes were both shut down.

Approximately 10 gallons of diesel gasoline also leaked onto the road following the crash, about 4% of the total amount in the big rig’s saddle tanks, according to the CHP.

All lanes except for the on-ramp from Cook Street to northbound I-10 were reopened by noon, according to CHP Officer David Torres.

A tow truck and ambulance were called to the scene, as well as multiple CHP units. No injuries were reported, Torres told City News Service.
