A 64-year-old man struck and killed in downtown Los Angeles in a hit-and-run crash was identified Thursday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to Fourth Street near Wall Street at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday where they learned the victim was walking in the street near Wall Street when the vehicle turned left on Fourth Street and fatally struck him, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

The victim was later identified by the medical examiner as Joseph Benson. His place of residence was not disclosed.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and there was no vehicle description, Eisenman said.

The LAPD’s Central Traffic is handling the investigation.
