A frost advisory was ordered for the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys Thursday, with forecasters saying they expect two or more hours of temperatures of between 32 and 35 degrees Fahrenheit Thursday morning.

“Frost could damage or kill sensitive vegetation. Outdoor pets and livestock are at risk for hypothermia,” said a statement from the National Weather Service, which issued a frost advisory scheduled to be in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. A more serious freeze warning was in effect to the north, in Ventura County.

During the day, temperatures in the Greater L.A. area will be a few degrees higher than Wednesday, reaching the high 60s under sunny skies in several communities. We’ll have a slight warming trend by Friday with highs in the low to mid 70s. But cold temperatures will return for the weekend, with highs in the mid to low 60s and overnight lows dipping into the low 40s.

The NWS forecast sunny skies Thursday and highs of 53 in Palmdale; 54 in Lancaster; 58 on Mount Wilson; 62 in Laguna Beach and San Clemente; 63 in Saugus, Newport Beach and Mission Viejo; 64 in Irvine; 65 in Avalon, Fullerton and Anaheim; 66 in Yorba Linda; 67 at LAX and in Pasadena, San Gabriel, Burbank and downtown L.A.; and 68 in Long Beach and Woodland Hills. Friday’s temperatures will be several degrees higher with a return to the 70s in many communities.
