A man fatally struck as he rode his scooter along a west Riverside street was identified Friday as a 40-year-old resident of the city.

Nicholas Pitcock died Wednesday afternoon following the collision in the 4000 block of La Sierra Avenue, near Cochran Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Sgt. Emilio Angulo said that about 4:35 p.m., Pitcock was on his electric scooter, traveling southbound in a northbound lane on the four-lane corridor, when he approached the main entrance and exit for La Sierra High School.

Just as the victim was passing the campus, a 21-year-old woman at the wheel of a sedan initiated a turn out of the parking lot onto La Sierra, according to Angulo.

“The vehicle collided head-on with the scooter,” he said.

The woman immediately stopped, and witnesses called 911.

Pitcock was taken to Riverside Community Hospital in grave condition and succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.

Angulo said the motorist was questioned by patrol officers but not arrested. However, the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8722.
