A 28-year-old transient with a felony conviction was charged Thursday with attacking a 79-year-old man with a skateboard in Costa Mesa.
Jacob Riley Manndavis was charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting injury on an elder adult, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a felon, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury on an elder, personal use of a deadly weapon and crime against a vulnerable victim.
A witness told officers on patrol of a man with a gun in the 700 block of West 19th Street early Wednesday, police said. When they tracked down the suspect he ran away, but they managed to catch up and take him into custody, police said.
Police found a loaded Glock at the scene and linked it to the vehicle break-in, police said.
Investigators also linked Manndavis to the Tuesday night attack on the 79-year-old man in the 600 block of West 19th St., police said.
The victim required hospitalization for head wounds in the attack with a skateboard, but was expected to make a full recovery, police said.
Manndavis did not enter a plea at his arraignment Thursday, which was rescheduled for Monday.
Manndavis pleaded guilty Sept. 15, 2023, to attempted robbery in Costa Mesa.
