A 40-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to a stabbing attack in front of a school in Santa Ana and was sentenced to probation.

Ivan Ayalacuevas pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, both felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of creating a disruption to threaten the physical safety of a student on school grounds, according to court records.

Over the objections of prosecutors, the defendant accepted a plea deal from Orange County Superior Court Larry Yellin, who sentenced Ayalacuevas to five days in jail, or time already served, and three years of informal probation.

The stabbing occurred about 11 a.m. May 24, 2023, in front of the school at 1300 E. McFadden Ave., near Grand Avenue, according to police. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to a hospital, police said.

Ayalacuevas stabbed a man and injured a woman he used to date, according to court records.
