A woman was killed when a vehicle struck her just after sunrise Monday in Long Beach, police said.
Officers found the woman unconscious in the road after responding about 6:45 a.m. to a call about a vehicle-pedestrian crash in the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Willow Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Bystanders and responding officers tried to render aid, but the woman, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital by firefighters and pronounced dead, police said.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 61-year-old Long Beach man driving a 2005 GMC made a right turn from westbound Willow Street onto northbound Long Beach Boulevard. The vehicle struck the woman as she walked in a marked crosswalk, according to the LBPD.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators.
”At this time, impaired driving does not appear to be a factor in the collision,” police stated in a news release.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash should contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355.
