The South Coast Air Quality Management District Thursday issued a windblown dust advisory for the Banning Pass and Coachella Valley — effective through Saturday at 3 a.m.
Winds gusting to 55 mph in those areas produced particle pollution levels ranging from good to hazardous Thursday morning in parts of the Coachella Valley, including Cathedral City and Mecca, the agency reported.
Palm Springs and Indio experienced lesser impacts, with particle pollution levels remaining in the good category Thursday morning.
The public was advised to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and avoiding vigorous physical activity.
More information on affected areas and current air quality is available at aqmd.gov/AQImap.
