A man was fatally injured Monday during an altercation at a Mead Valley home, where the assailant was taken into custody without incident.

The fatality occurred shortly before 1 a.m. in the 19000 block of Day Street, near Martin Street, just northwest of Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The agency said patrol deputies were sent to the location to investigate reports of a violent confrontation and found the victim, identified only as a Mead Valley resident, “suffering from trauma to his lower extremities.”

It was not disclosed whether he had been stabbed or attacked with some other deadly instrument.

Sgt. Alberto Loureiro said paramedics attempted resuscitative measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The other male involved in the fight was detained,” Loureiro said, without identifying the party.

Central Homicide Unit detectives were summoned to take over the investigation.

There was no mention of what may have triggered the deadly confrontation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Perris station at 951-210-1000.
