A man and a woman were arrested Saturday on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs in connection with a two-vehicle crash in Fullerton that killed a motorcyclist.

Officers dispatched around midnight Saturday morning to a traffic crash near the intersection of Euclid Street and Bastanchury Road located a damaged 1993 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the ground and a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe connected to a 1996 Prowler recreational trailer, said Kristy Wells of the Fullerton Police Department.

The bike had sustained significant damage and the rider was on the ground with serious injuries, Wells said. The recreational trailer sustained visible collision damage and was stopped in the middle of the roadway, west of the intersection, Wells said.

Arriving paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene, she said.

The woman had been driving the Chevy eastbound on Bastanchury Road, when it came to a stop in the center median due to a mechanical issue, she said.

The second person, a man, tried to reverse the vehicle, causing the trailer to jack-knife and extend across both westbound lanes — and directly into the path of the motorcylist, who was traveling westbound from Euclid Street, she said.

“Both the adult female driver and the adult male who attempted to move the vehicle were arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs,” Wells said. “It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in relation to the rider’s operation of the motorcycle.”
