A garage fire that extended into the attic of a one-story house in Echo Park was knocked down in 29 minutes Monday evening by Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters.
Firefighters were called at 8:59 p.m. to 1535 Mohawk St., between Mayberry Street and Berekley Avenue, where they attacked the garage fire while simultaneously entering the home to battle the flames inside the attic, while they were able to save property on the main floor, said LAPD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
It took 32 firefighters to extinguish the flames. The occupants of the residence were able to exit the residence unharmed, according to reports from the scene.
The Department of Water and Power was requested to examine wires that had fallen at the property, Lantz said. No injuries were reported.
