A 34-year-old man has been charged with leaving his mother hospitalized after she threatened to kick him out of their Ladera Ranch home, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Elyas Michael Mechekak was charged Tuesday with attempted murder with a sentencing enhancement for attempted premeditated murder and inflicting great bodily injury on the victim. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana Tuesday and was scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing July 10 in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
Mechekak was accused of attacking his mother Sunday, sheriff’s deputies said. The victim was hospitalized in unknown condition.
The defendant pleaded guilty July 21, 2009, to unlawful possession of a controlled substance and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies.
