A person was killed when a car became fully engulfed in flames on an off-ramp of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in the unincorporated West Whittier-Los Nietos area.
A witness notified the California Highway Patrol about 9:05 p.m. Saturday that the sedan was in flames on the Slauson Avenue off-ramp.
The CHP reported that a witness who called claimed to have tried open the doors of the car but was unable to do so and did not know if anyone was inside.
The case was deemed a fatality at 9:24 p.m. and CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service it appeared one person was killed.
The Florence off-ramp was shut down for the investigation.
