Two people were killed Thursday when a pickup overturned and caught on fire on eastbound Interstate 10 near Mecca.

The crash was reported shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday west of the Cactus City rest stop, according to California Highway Patrol.

According to CHP Officer David Torres, a Ford pickup traveling in the No. 2 lane at unconfirmed speeds “made an unsafe turning movement towards the right hand shoulder” and overturned.

The truck was engulfed in flames, and the two occupants inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, Torres said.

Two freeway lanes remained blocked as of late Thursday morning while the CHP investigated the crash.

No further details were immediately available.

  1. Before your post a story, how about using some journalistic integrity? That posted fake picture showing what I assume is a fake victim is disgusting and an insult to the real victims, my good friends. They did NOTHING wrong. The “unsafe turning movement” was due to a sudden tire explosion causing the horrific accident and deaths. DO NOT contact me. And do your research before posting a shallow article for the attention.
