An armed suspect was hospitalized after being shot by Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies, authorities announced Thursday.

Deputies responded to a store on Wednesday at around 3 p.m. near Trabuco and El Toro roads, where they attempted to take the suspect into custody, resulting in a “deputy-involved” shooting, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Details leading up to the shooting remain limited.

Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene and had the suspect taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment for unknown injuries.

On the same day, during an unrelated incident involving a deputy-involved shooting, a K9 unit responded to the area. A dog bit a deputy, who was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.

The details regarding the severity of his injuries were not disclosed. Sheriff’s officials said the Orange County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the deputy-involved shooting per protocol.
