An East Hemet resident trying to extinguish a backyard fire Friday suffered burns that required immediate medical attention.

The fire was reported just after 4 p.m. Friday on Woodside Court, near Charlton Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that several engine crews were sent to the location and found residents stomping out the remnants of a blaze adjacent to a home.

One of the parties, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered unspecified burns and was taken by ambulance to a regional trauma center for treatment, officials said.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no immediate word regarding the circumstances behind the fire, which was under investigation.
