Four men were charged Friday in the fatal shooting of a security guard in June.

David Anthony Ortega, 44, Rene Jose Juarez Jr., 37, Max Maestas, 54, and Robert Allen Duncan, 43, all of whom live in Los Angeles, were arrested Wednesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. They are accused in the June 22 killing of 48-year-old Salvador Ramirez of Fountain Valley.

The four were charged with murder with a special-circumstance allegation of gang activity and face sentencing enhancements for a gang member’s vicarious discharge of a gun causing great bodily injury and gang activity.

The four did not enter a plea at their arraignment Friday in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. They were due to be arraigned Sept. 5 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a shooting just before 1 a.m. June 22 to the 8000 block of Katella Avenue in an unincorporated area of Anaheim near 99 Bottles & Cocktails, deputies said. Ramirez worked as a security guard at 99 Bottles and Cocktails when he was shot, deputies said.

Ortega has prior convictions in Los Angeles County for assault with a deadly weapon on Dec. 22, 1995, robbery on May 8, 2012, and robbery on April 6, 2017, according to the criminal complaint. Maestas was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Los Angeles County on July 15, 1993, according to the complaint.
