Firefighters Saturday discovered the human remains of a person while knocking down a trailer fire in the Vermont Square community of South Los Angeles, authorities said.
Firefighters were dispatched at 5:30 a.m. to a homeless encampment at 4628 S. Western Ave., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Upon extinguishment of the flames, they discovered the remains of one person within the trailer. No other injuries reported,” said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“That person’s cause of death, as well as the cause and origin of the fire remain the focus of an active investigation,” Humphrey said.
