A 24-year-old man suspected of stabbing another man multiple times in Santa Monica has been taken into custody, police announced Friday.

Officers responded around 4:58 p.m. Sunday near the 1600 block of Ocean Front Walk to reports regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The victim was located by the responding officers with non-life-threatening injuries. He was immediately rendered medical aid until the arrival of Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics, who took him to a hospital for treatment.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the attack occurred at the top of a staircase connecting Ocean Front Walk to Appian Way before the suspect ran away.

Detectives later identified the suspect as Malvin Walker, who was located on Wednesday in the 1800 block of Ocean Front Walk and taken into custody.

Walker was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, and also booked on unrelated offenses, which included felony vandalism without bail, and for a $51,000 warrant on suspicion of battery.

Anyone with additional information regarding the stabbing was urged to contact Detective Isaac Reyes at isaac.reyes@santamonica.gov or dispatch at 310-458-8427.
