A 42-year-old man who was fatally struck on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass was identified by county authorities Wednesday.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Bernardo Borges Dreher.
Dreher, who appeared to have been standing outside a stopped vehicle on the right side of the roadway, was struck at about 1:55 p.m. Monday on the southbound 405 Freeway at Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video from the crash site showed a body covered with a tarp on the freeway, not far from a vehicle on the right side of the roadway, with a gas can also visible near the car. A flatbed truck— possibly the vehicle that struck Dreher— was stopped a short distance away.
KTLA5 reported from the scene that the truck driver was given a field sobriety test and then taken into custody.
All southbound lanes were closed with the exception of the carpool lane Monday afternoon while authorities investigated the crash.
