An armed suspect was shot and killed Wednesday by Los Angeles Police Department officers in North Hills.

Officers from the Mission Community Police Station responded at approximately 5:20 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Parthenia Street and Orion Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

What led up to the shooting remains unclear.

”An LAPD airship was above the call and directed ground units to the suspect walking on Parthenia at the freeway underpass. When the officers encountered the suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said in a statement.

The suspect, described only as a man, was then taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

His name was not immediately release.

Police said the suspect’s weapon remained at the scene and was expected to be recovered as evidence.

No officers or bystanders sustained injuries during the shooting.
