A possible murder suspect was taken into custody Thursday after driving erratically and endangering other motorists and pedestrians during a police chase on freeways and surface streets in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department was following the vehicle on the Harbor (110) Freeway in the Harbor Gateway area at about 4 p.m. Thursday, moments before the driver transitioned onto surface streets in the San Pedro area, weaving through traffic and at one point driving the wrong way on a freeway on-ramp.
The suspect merged back onto the northbound 110 Freeway in the Wilmington area with a rear bumper hanging from the vehicle. Several spike strips were deployed, including one on the freeway, which flattened at least one tire.
Despite that effort, the driver continued at slower speeds before exiting the 110 Freeway.
The pursuit eventually terminated after the suspect stopped near 92nd and Main streets in South Los Angeles and surrendered to police officers.
ABC7 reported that the driver was a murder suspect, but no further information could immediately be confirmed.
