A 42-year-old motorist was killed when his pickup overturned as he was attempting to enter Interstate 215 in Menifee, possibly while intoxicated, authorities said Monday.
The fatality occurred just after 1 p.m. Sunday at the transition ramp from westbound Highway 74 to southbound I-215, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Mike Lassig said the victim, whose name was not immediately released, was at the wheel of his 2014 Chevrolet 2500 pickup when he “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing his vehicle to collide with the curb and overturn.”
Lassig said the driver was not wearing a safety restraint and was ejected from the Chevy. No other vehicles were involved.
He was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar in grave condition and died a short time later.
“Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision,” the CHP spokesman said.
An autopsy was pending on the victim Monday.
