A fire that erupted Tuesday in a Mead Valley junk yard threatened several mobile homes and passenger vehicles before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Yucca and Withers roads, about two miles west of Interstate 215, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in a large refuse pile, posing an immediate threat to at least two mobile homes, a bus and other vehicles.

Crews quickly established hose lays, containing the fire at 2:10 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

Firefighters were expected to complete mopping up at the location by 3 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
