A 44-year-old woman pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to 10 days in jail for a drunk-driving crash in Westminster that happened while an 8-year-old boy was in her car.
Arleen Daday Garcia admitted a count of child abuse and endangerment as well as counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08% or more and hit-and-run with property damage, all misdemeanors. As part of the plea deal, the child abuse and endangerment charge was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor.
The single-car collision happened on Garden Grove Boulevard near the Garden Grove (22) Freeway about 6:15 p.m. Oct. 6, police said. Garcia is related to the boy who was in the car, police said, but did not expand on the nature of the relationship.
Garcia’s blood-alcohol content was .213, according to the criminal complaint.
Garcia pleaded guilty to burglary and receiving stolen property in September 2013, according to the criminal complaint.
She was placed on four years of informal probation and must complete a nine-month first-offender alcohol program and a one-year child-abuser’s treatment program.
