He’s not really a founding member of the Backstreet Boys, but a package thief caught on security camera in Irvine sure looks like one, and police Thursday are hoping someone will recognize the celebrity look-alike and turn him in.
The Irvine Police Department released surveillance video on social media showing a package-thief culprit who bears a striking resemblance to Backstreet Boy AJ McLean. In a pun-filled post accompanied by the band’s “Backstreet’s Back,” police said the culprit followed an Amazon delivery driver into the secure area of an Irvine Spectrum-area apartment building and “walked out with packages that weren’t his.”
“We’re pretty sure this isn’t AJ McLean from the @backstreetboys, but the resemblance had us doing a double take,” police wrote. “… Quit playin’ games with our mail. Backstreet’s back, but your packages shouldn’t be going with him. If you know who he is, tell us why he walked out with other people’s stuff.”
It was unclear exactly when the theft took place.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Officer Suzanne Paulsen at spaulsen@cityofirvine.org.
