Indio police responded to a collision possibly involving a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicle Friday within the city.

Officers responded to a report of a collision about 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 46000 block of Vargas Road.

They learned that ICE agents were following a vehicle prior to the collision.

It was not immediately known if any injuries were reported, nor any details surrounding the collision. It was unclear if anyone was hurt.

Police said their involvement was limited to assisting with the crash and any related road safety measures.

“The Indio Police Department was not involved in any enforcement or investigative actions related to ICE and did not participate in the ICE operation,” the department stated.
