Two young girls killed in a mobile home fire in Murrieta that also caused the deaths of pets and left others injured prompted an “outpouring of community support” that city officials Monday expressed hope would make some positive impact on the family.
“On behalf of the entire Murrieta community, the city extends its sympathy to the local family that tragically lost two children in the residential structure fire that occurred on Saturday, and all their friends and loved ones,” Murrieta Mayor Jon Levell said.
Emma Keenan, 12, and Abby Keenan, 11, daughters of Adam Keenan and Stacey Hales, died shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday when flames swept through their residence in the 41000 block of Knight Drive, according to Murrieta Fire & Rescue and friends of the victims.
A GoFundMe campaign was immediately initiated for the survivors. As of Monday afternoon, nearly $60,000 had been raised. The account can be found at: www.gofundme.com/f/help-stacey-rebuild-after-devastating-loss.
“It’s been tremendous to see the outpouring of community support for the family in their time of need,” Levell said.
The father and mother escaped with survivable injuries, along with their other daughter, Ashley Keenan. The mom’s injuries inflicted major damage to her eyesight, according to published reports.
They lost several pets, according to the fundraiser.
Firefighters arrived to find the residence engulfed in flames, as well as two outbuildings and three vehicles. The blaze was knocked down less than an hour later.
According to the fundraiser, the family has lost everything, and the money will aid them in rebuilding their lives.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
