A former Palmdale High School girls’ varsity basketball coach was sentenced Wednesday to nearly five years in state prison for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old member of the team.

Marcus Anthonio Williams, 39, of Lancaster, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Williams pleaded no contest Feb. 16 to one felony count each of oral copulation of a person under 16, committing a lewd act on a child, meeting a minor for lewd purposes, contact with a minor for a sexual offense and possession of youth or child pornography, along with two felony counts of activity involving material depicting sexual conduct

Williams and the teenager were discovered Jan. 7 in a vehicle parked on the side of a street, according to Deputy District Attorney Jon Hatami.

Numerous naked and explicit photographs and videos of the teen were discovered in Williams’ cell phone, as well as conversations with the girl through text messaging and social media, the prosecutor said.
