A former Coachella Valley Unified School District janitor was arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography, authorities said Wednesday.

Carlos Santiago Camacho Jr., 20, of Coachella, was arrested Jan. 7 and booked into Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of invasion of privacy and possession of child pornography, according to Sgt. Robert Martinez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Bail information was not immediately available.

According to Martinez, deputies responded to a report of unlawful invasion of privacy shortly before 2 p.m. Jan. 5 in the 83000 block of Calle Moreno Street. When deputies arrived, however, Camacho had already fled the scene. He was found two days later and arrested.

Martinez said Camacho worked as a janitor at a local school, but his arrest “stemmed from an incident that occurred away from school grounds.”

The CVUSD issued a statement Tuesday calling the suspect a former employee.

“The district confirms that an investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s has been conducted, and an arrest has been made,” CVUSD officials said. “… Please know that we do not tolerate any inappropriate behavior in our district, and that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”

The investigation was ongoing, and no further information was immediately available.

It was unclear exactly where Camacho worked.
