An 84-year-old woman who was reported as an at-risk missing person in Indio was located safely Saturday, the Indio Police Department announced.

A Silver Alert was issued earlier Saturday on behalf of Mayra Porras De Santiago, who was last seen in a gated community in Indio around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

At around 9:25 a.m. Saturday, a nearby resident saw De Santiago walking in the 41000 block of Via Arleta and escorted her safely back to her residence, authorities said.

Officers from the Indio PD were later notified and responded to the location. De Santiago was subsequently evaluated by paramedics as a precaution, and was determined to be in good physical condition. She was safely reunited with her family.

At the time of the initial report, De Santiago had last been seen at Via Arleta and Avenida Los Padres, according to the California Highway Patrol, which activated the alert on behalf of the Indio Police Department.

The CHP established the Silver Alert program to issue and coordinate searches for missing elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
