Authorities turned to the public Tuesday for help identifying a motorcyclist who held up a Calimesa store then jetted away on the freeway, eluding law enforcement.

The robbery occurred at 11 p.m. on Dec. 4 at a quick stop outlet in the 1100 block of Calimesa Boulevard, near Avenue L, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Phil Pike said the suspect walked into the business wearing his helmet and other protective gear, fired a semiautomatic pistol to frighten the clerk and others, then demanded money from the cash register.

After the clerk handed over what he had, the robber exited and jumped on his motorcycle, “then fled toward Interstate 10,” Pike said, adding that no one was hurt.

Patrol deputies swarmed the location minutes later, but by that time the bandit was long gone. California Highway Patrol officers also didn’t spot him.

The man was described as Hispanic, with a mustache, wearing a black jacket with an orange hood, dark blue jeans, dark-colored sneakers and a black helmet with a sticker bearing the words “Pedo Hunter.” Height and weight details weren’t provided.

The motorcycle was black and appeared to be a foreign-made model, though there was no mention of a possible date of manufacture or specific brand.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the sheriff’s Cabazon station at 951-922-7100.
