A suspect who led police on a chase through South Los Angeles is in police custody Thursday after he barricaded himself inside a building for almost an hour.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Newton Division attempted to stop the suspect, who was driving a black Ford SUV, near San Pedro Street and Gage Avenue around 10:36 p.m. Wednesday, regarding a report that the driver was armed. The suspect drove away from the officers, who pursued him to the area of Browning Boulevard and St. Andrews Place, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.
The suspect jumped out of the SUV and ran into a nearby neighborhood, where he jumped into several yards and at one point, climbed onto a roof, according to reports from the scene.
Officers established a perimeter around the location as the suspect barricaded himself into a residence. The suspect eventually surrendered to police at 11:13 p.m. Wednesday and was taken into custody, the LAPD spokesman said.
