Intermittent detours will be placed along Van Nuys Boulevard in Los Angeles beginning Monday as construction continues on the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project.
The construction will take place on Van Nuys Boulevard between Sherman Way and Arminta Street from January 26 until June 22, with detours in place to direct traffic around the closure during work hours.
The street will be closed in one direction at a time for northbound and southbound traffic, according to the LA Metro. When one side is closed, the opposite side is to remain open with lane restrictions.
The northbound detour will take Sherman Way to Woodman Avenue to Roscoe Boulevard and back to Van Nuys Boulevard, while the southbound detour takes Sherman Way to Sepulveda Boulevard to Roscoe Boulevard and back to Van Nuys Boulevard. Flaggers will be provided to direct traffic if access is restricted to local businesses during closures.
Closures will apply to the northbound lanes from January 26 to February 9, then to the southbound lanes from February 9 to March 9, and to northbound lanes again from March 9 to June 22, the LA Metro said in a press release.
Work hours are from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and from Monday to Sunday, and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Saturday to Sunday.
During each directional closure, surrounding side streets such as Wyandotte Street, Valerio Street, Covello Street, Saticoy Street and Keswick Street may be impacted with closures. Travelers are advised to anticipate traffic delays in the area, at night and on weekends, the LA Metro said.
Bus services will continue with temporary bus stop relocations and a detour for Metro Bus Lines 169, 233, 761, and LA Department of Transportation Dash.
LA Metro’s $3.57 billion East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project will span 6.7 miles along Van Nuys Boulevard and connect new and existing local and regional transit services in the San Fernando Valley, including Metrolink, Amtrak and other Metro lines. The project is expected to be completed in 2031.
