The California Highway Patrol sought the public’s assistance Tuesday in locating the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a passenger who had been ejected from an SUV in a crash in Altadena.

The crash occurred at about 1:20 a.m. Dec. 20 on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway west of Lowell Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Detectives determined, following an investigation, that a Nissan Pathfinder was heading eastbound on the Foothill Freeway before being struck by another vehicle, which caused the driver of the Pathfinder to lose control. It overturned and crashed into a guardrail bordering the right shoulder.

The impact of the crash resulted in a front passenger to be ejected from the Pathfinder, who was later struck by another vehicle before the arrival of officers, according to the CHP.

The driver continued traveling without stopping to render aid.

The passenger, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run crash was urged to call CHP Altadena Area Officer Gamlet Petrosyan at 626-296-8100. Calls during non-business hours should be made to the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
