City officials used the occasion of February’s Spay and Neuter Awareness Month Tuesday to remind pet owners that affordable spay and neuter resources, including free spay/neuter certificates and low-cost vouchers, are available to all Angelenos.

Free certificates and low-cost vouchers may be downloaded from laspayneuter.com, and are also available for pickup at any of the city’s six city animal shelters, according to Los Angeles Animal Services.

The free spay/neuter certificates are available to qualified city residents and cover the full cost of a companion animal’s sterilization, while low-cost coupons are also available to all city residents, and significantly reduce the cost of a pet’s spay/neuter surgery.

Each household is eligible to receive spay/neuter certificates or vouchers for up to three dogs, three cats, and three rabbits per household. Community cats and stray dogs do not qualify for the program.

Spaying and neutering reduces the unwanted pet population, and can also have positive health benefits for dogs, cats and rabbits.
