A 3-year-old gelding running his first race died after suffering an injury and throwing his jockey at Los Alamitos, state horse racing officials reported Wednesday.
Fire Flight was injured in Sunday’s seventh race at the Cypress track. He “came out start, ducked/lost rider” and was equine ambulanced, according to the official race chart.
He is the second horse to die from a racing or training injury at the track this year, after the 3-year-old filly Imm Relentless fell during a Jan. 24 race and also unseated her jockey.
Los Alamitos had 19 racing and training deaths in 2025, according to California Horse Racing Board data.
