One of four people killed tin a fiery single-vehicle crash in Long Beach over the weekend was identified by county authorities Monday.
Officers responded at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday to a crash in the area of East Spring Street and Lakewood Boulevard, not far from Long Beach Airport, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
“The preliminary investigation revealed (a) 2008 Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Lakewood Boulevard from Spring Street when the vehicle hit the center median curb,” according to an LBPD statement. “The vehicle lost control and hit the underpass center support wall and (was) engulfed in flames.”
Firefighters found a female occupant outside the vehicle, and she died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts, police said.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as 22-year-old Amber Delgado of Huntington Park.
Three additional occupants — another female and two males — were found dead inside the burned vehicle, police said. Their names, ages and cities of residence were not immediately released.
“At this time, speed and impairment are being investigated as a possible factors in the collision,” the LBPD stated.
The car crashed into the center support wall where Lakewood Boulevard goes underneath a portion of a Long Beach Airport runway.
The LBPD told ABC7 the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate whether broader safety issues were involved and plans to issue a preliminary report within 30 days.
