A brush fire near a freeway interchange in the Elysian Park area scorched less than an acre of vegetation Monday, but temporarily closed a busy connector and several ramps.

The fire was reported about 11:35 a.m. near the Golden State (5) and Glendale (2) freeway interchange — in the 2200 block of West Ripple Street in Elysian Valley, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Water dropping helicopters were dispatched to fight the fire, LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz said.

On- and off-ramps and the transition road between the two freeways were temporarily blocked according to the California Highway Patrol.

The flames were knocked down by Monday afternoon. According to Lantz, several fire crews remained at the scene to ensure all hotspots were fully extinguished and to carry out cleanup operations.

There were no reported injuries, and no structures were threatened by the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
