Police Thursday morning were conducting a manhunt in Sylmar, not far from an apartment complex where a man suspected of fatally stabbing his 35-year-old girlfriend was spotted.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to 13826 Beaver Street and Dronfield Avenue near the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday regarding a stabbing call. Witnesses told police the victim was stabbed by a man, who then ran away from the scene, an LAPD officer told City News Service.
The victim, also 35, was found suffering from multiple stab wounds during a welfare check. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Video from the scene showed Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rushing her into an ambulance.
According to reports from the scene, the suspect was the victim’s boyfriend.
On Thursday morning around 5 a.m., officers descended on the area of Hubbard and Eighth Street, about four miles from the murder scene, and set up a perimeter as they searched for the man.
The perimeter encompassed the grounds of Gridley-Montanez Dual Language Academy at Gridley and Eighth Street.
“Due to ongoing police activity in the area, the students and staff from Gridley-Montanez Dual Language Academy will be relocated temporarily to Maclay Middle School,” according to a statement from the Los Angeles Unified School District. “There will be additional staff onsite to assist and support.”
School administrators “remain in communication with local authorities for important updates about our local community,” according to a statement issued to parents.
“We will provide updates as they become available,” the district said.
