A man, believed about 70 years old, was injured Friday evening when the converted garage in Encino he lives in caught fire.
The fire was reported at 9:49 p.m. at 17706 Martha St., near White Oak Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
Light smoke was visible with the first fire engine arrived at the scene, Middleton said.
Firefighters quickly put out the small fire in contents inside the accessory dwelling unit, she said. The fire did not spread to the main home on the property.
The patient was assessed at the scene and taken to a hospital for treatment, Middleton said. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire was not known, she said.
